The Clementine is derived from a natural cross between a mandarin and a sweet orange.
Father Clement, chief of the incubator Misserghin orphanage in Algeria, discovered this tree, planted among others in the courtyard of the orphanage. It was forgotten until the children enjoyed the fruit matures before the mandarin.
Father Clement also tasted the fruit and they gave his name to this new fruit: Clementine.
